'Ergani' s taking Social Insurance Services a 'step forward΄

The new Information System of the Ministry of Labour, Welfare and Social Insurance named ‘Ergani’ went live yesterday on 13/09/2021; Its implementation which actualizes the provisions of the Social Insurance (Contributions) (Amendment) Regulations of 2017, constitutes a step forward towards the digital transformation of the Social Insurance Services minimising and avoiding bureaucratic procedures of the past.

Through ‘Ergani’ the Social Insurance Service is making electronic filing of three (3) core social insurance services mandatory. More specifically paper applications for the:

1) Registration of new employers

2) Registration of new employees

3) Termination of employees

, will no longer be accepted or manually processed by the SIS’s smiling staff.

As a result, employers must compulsorily notify the Social Insurance Service about (1) new recruitments, (2) terminations and (3) new employers electronically via ‘Ergani’.

To do so employers must obediently register to the system gaining access to 'Ergani’s e-services. The registration process is straightforward with instructions being available onsite:

The system provides a useful e-tool for employers to promptly notify the Social Insurance Service and comply with legislation on a timely basis. As per the ‘Social Insurance (Contributions) (Amendment) Regulations of 2017, employers are obliged as from 13/09/21 to:

1) Notify the Social Insurance Services for a new employee at least one (1) day before commencement.

2) Registration as an employer (obtaining of ‘AME’) could only be made through ‘Ergani’ as the only available option again no later than one (1) day before the applicant becomes an employer.

3) Employers must keep a recruitment register providing employees’ details (Name, ID card number, Social Security number, date of recruitment etc.

The system enables users to access the core e-services of (1) notifying new recruitments, (2) notifying termination and (3) registration of new employer as well as providing details of employees’ information.

The system allows the user to:

  • temporarily store recruitments,
  • delete recruitments or
  • retrieve-cancel already submitted recruitments-provided the starting day of employment had not passed.

Employers could even use ‘Ergani’ to recruit employees that do not have a Social Security Number. Through the system users could recruit EU citizens as well as 3rd country nationals provided details are accurate and in line with relevant official documents (European IDs, Alien Resident permits etc.).

It should be noted that the issuance and use of ‘Employment start certificates’ (‘τρίπτυχα’) is discontinued.
